Noise Reducing Fence and walls (aka sound fences) are made of many materials. They can be light weight composite materials such as fiberglass, metal, concrete and in some cases plastic.
Noise Reducing Fences are made to achieve high sound transmission loss from the noise source to the receptor. This is typically achieved by interrupting the line of sight. For example on a noisy highway the sound wall or sound fence is placed between the road and homes. This blocks the sound waves by interrupting the direct line of sight sound waves can travel.
Sound Walls and Noise Reducing Fence Uses
Sound walls and sound fences are used for industrial, residential and commercial applications such as: highway noise, generator noise, HVAC noise, loading dock noise, construction noise and other types of machinery that produce unwanted noise.
Most systems are offered as a lightweight pre-engineered modular system. This allows the sound wall or sound enclosure to be mounted from bridges to roof tops. Unlike the large heavy concrete systems that require heavy lifting and cranes, light weight sound fences and sound walls can be installed by using forklifts or man power. This makes construction faster and less costly as an end result.
Each type of sound wall or fence has its unique place. For example if placing a sound wall around a substation the best product is fiberglass since it is nonconductive. In other applications decorative light weigh concrete sound fences may be preferred when installed along a neighborhood or shopping mall for its architectural appeal. There are many types of sound barrier fences and walls available that are effective in blocking sound.
